KS Kolbenschmidt was founded in 1968 in Santo André, a city which is part of the São Paulo metropolitan area, and where most of the car manufactures were based at that time. In 1986 KS Kolbenschmidt started the process of moving to its current premises in Nova Odessa, a city close to Campinas in the State of São Paulo. This process was concluded in 1993 when all departments were gathered at the new plant. The change to the new site meant a significant increase in the plant area from 15,000m² to 400,000m² with over 40,000m² of constructed area in 1993.
The amount of land space available at the site is part of KSPG Group business strategy, as the four companies from the group occupy nearby plants: KS Kolbenschmidt, Pierburg Pump Technology, KS Gleitlager and Motor Service.
KS Kolbenschmidt currently has a constructed area of 54,000m² and approximately 1,700 staff who basically work on 3 shifts. KS Kolbenschmidt produces pistons for both Otto and Diesel vehicle engines in diameters ranging from 35 to 140 mm, besides aluminium pistons for the light equipment industry, mainly for chain saws.
KS Kolbenschmidt main clients are: Andreas Stihl (Brazil and Germany), Cummins (Brazil and U.S.A.), Daimler (Brazil and Germany), Deutz (Germany), Ford (Brazil and UK), GM/Opel (Brazil, U.S.A., Germany, Hungary and Australia), Honda Motos/Autos (Brazil), Husqvarna (Brazil), Iveco (Brazil and Italy), MAN (Germany), MWM/Intl (Brazil and U.S.A.), Perkins (Brazil and UK), PSA (Brazil and Argentina), Renault/Nissan (Brazil and France), Scania (Brazil and Sweden), Sisu/Valtra (Brazil and Finland), Volkswagen (Brazil, Germany and Mexico), Volvo (Brazil and Sweden) e Yamaha (Brazil).
